About GeomatIKa

GeomatIKa Information Systems Inc. provides a comprehensive range of GIS and remote sensing consulting and advisory services to clients in government, non-governmental organisations, private sector companies and educational institutions. GeomatIKa is not a vendor of software or hardware, but is an information content provider and an application builder. As such, GeomatIKa focuses on working closely with each client to design and build practical solutions wherever geographically distributed information needs to be effectively visualised and managed.

GeomatIKa can fulfill many different roles in the implementation of GIS technology, from assisting clients in the set up and utilisation of in-house GIS systems, to the design and execution of digital mapping projects at any scale. The company's main focus is on the development of custom applications to model environmental processes such as soil erosion, on land management systems, and on automated decision-making assistance. Specific examples include: coastal environment sensitivity, least impact route and site selection, air and water pollution dispersion, land resource management, and emergency response planning.

Mapping solutions are delivered as traditional hardcopy maps, as digital files in a variety of formats, or as self-contained computer or web-based interactive systems. Regardless of format, GeomatIKa ensures that each client can access and use the needed results as quickly as possible, and follows up with training and knowledge transfer wherever necessary.

Remote Sensing is a collection of procedures used to gather, process and analyse information about the earth's surface. Aerial photographs, digital radar, laser, optical or thermal imagery can be obtained from an aeroplane, helicopter or satellite, and can be processed and interpreted using a series of computerised georeferencing and classification techniques.
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer technology for collecting, storing, manipulating and analysing geographic spatial data. GIS is much more advanced than computer-aided design (CAD) or any other spatial data system. A typical GIS combines a geographical database (map) with a spreadsheet-type database to allow for powerful visual display and analysis of information using maps
